If your lips are dry and flaky, try making your own balms. These balms will help keep your lips hydrated by creating a protective barrier which seal in moisture and heal deep cracks and splits from infection and irritation. You can add flavors to your creation, choosing honey or non-phototoxic essential oils. There is also the option of cosmetic grade lip flavors specially made for lip balms in the market.
Precaution: Certain essential oils are phototoxic and may cause skin tanning when exposed to sunlight. Some of these essential oils include (but are not limited to) orange, mandarin, tangerine, petitgrain, bergamot, grapefruit and lemon. Therefore avoid adding them to your lip balm recipe.
